Ryan Murphy recently appeared on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast and discussed some background details regarding the Fox hit comedy/musical series Glee. Ryan dropped quite a few tidbits on the podcast, but perhaps the biggest is that he originally wrote the character Mr. Schue for Justin Timberlake. But, of course, Matthew Morrison ended up playing the character on Glee on Fox.

In the podcast, which Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz host, Ryan said:

“When we were writing the pilot, I’ve never really talked about this, that pilot was written for Justin Timberlake. Mr. Schue was written for Justin.”

That’s where the interview ended, and part two will pick up. However, elsewhere in the interview, Ryan Murphy revealed that the original script for Glee on Fox was much darker than what made it to television. He stated that Mr. Shue was a drug addict in the first pilot written for the series.

Ryan Murphy’s interview with And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast shows how creative projects evolve before the audience gets the chance to see them. Glee would have been a much different show with these first ideas. You can listen to the full Ryan Murphy conversation on And That’s What You REALLY Missed.

And That’s What You REALLY Missed Podcast

The And That’s What You REALLY Missed Podcast goes behind the scenes of the popular Fox comedy/musical series. The new podcast is hosted by Kevin McHale, who played Artie, and Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina on Glee. Both were main characters, meaning they know much about the show and what the audience didn’t get to see. As fans know, the title of the podcast is a direct reference to Glee on Fox. It’s also fitting to have Ryan Murphy, the creator of the hit Fox series, on the podcast’s first episode.

New episodes of the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast will drop weekly on all podcast platforms.
