Stamp collecting is a somewhat niche hobby that is often looked down upon and considered too nerdy for some people. For us, however, we celebrate all things nerdy, hence the name, and will never judge anyone for their place in geekdom.
We may not always like the same things as you, but we will respect you for your opinions. That said, I’ve never collected any stamps myself and haven’t really felt the urge to do so. Until now.
As of 01/07/2020, you can officially call me a stamp collector, all thanks to the Royal Mail and their announcement of a set of video game stamps.
In their entire 504 years of operation, I’d rank this as number 1 in their list of achievements as I’d defy anyone not to want a set of stamps styled after a collection of the best UK designed games of the ’80s and ’90s.
First off there’s a Tomb Raider mini sheet that contains 4 different stamps from Lara’s adventures. There are two first-class stamps, one representing the original Tomb Raider, with the other representing the more modern reboot. The other two have a value of £1.55 and represent Tomb Raider III and Tomb Raider Chronicles.
The other stamps, as you can see from the main picture, are styled after a number of much loved classic games. The full list is available here and includes the price of each stamp. Needless to say, there are some absolute classics including, Micro Machines, Sensible Soccer, Wipeout, and Worms.
If you’re not currently in the UK you may be cursing my name right now, but fear not as the Royal Mail allows worldwide postage on these. They will charge you a postage fee, which makes me laugh, but at least other fans outside of the UK won’t lose out.
The stamps can be pre-ordered now at a cost of £14.25 plus postage, for a presentation pack and will be available from January 21.

I honestly didn’t imagine I would wake up today and be excited about stamps, I don’t even send letters so the thought I’d ever need any again hadn’t crossed my mind. I was wrong. Although, please don’t ask me what £1.55 would get you within our postage system as I don’t have a clue.
