Robert Rodriguez wants to bring Spy Kids to a whole new generation with a reboot of the beloved movie franchise. Netflix will work with Rodriguez to relaunch the movie. Robert Rodriguez will write, direct and produce the new feature film. The original film that came out 21 years ago starred Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara. Banderas and Gugino were spies that fell in love and produced Vega and Sabara. The parents find themselves kidnapped, and it’s up to Vega and Sabara to save them and the other adult spies. The Netflix relaunch of the popular movie intends to introduce a new spy family. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will executive produce the Spy Kids reboot. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance Media will be producers. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre from Spyglass Media will also produce the film.

Spy Kids Made a Bang in the Box Office, Will the Reboot Including Robert Rodriguez Do the Same?

The Spy Kids movies have made more than $550 million globally. The movie franchise includes four movies and showed the versatility of Robert Rodriguez. Before Spy Kids, Rodriguez was known primarily for From Dusk to Dawn, a horror-action film that is definitely not suited for children. Now with the promise of a Spy Kids reboot, the director can amaze younger audiences once again. Along with Skydance Media and Spyglass Media, Netflix will relaunch the movie franchise with an all-new spy family. The original movies had many strange villains and quirky gadgets that amazed their target audience. The director behind The Book of Boba Fett, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and co-director for Sin City is going back to his roots. Fans of the original Spy Kids movies will at least know that the reboot is in good hands with Robert Rodriguez.
