We’ve all been starved of anything A Nightmare on Elm Street related since the 2010 reboot starring Jackie Earle Haley. The reboot itself did not hit the mark with critics and didn’t ever justify a sequel, no bad thing. It was OK as a movie, I suppose, but really missed the humor from the originals.
Since then, the A Nightmare on Elm Street rights have reverted back to the Craven estate, and chances have never been higher for fans to see Freddy Krueger don that iconic jumper again.
Original star Robert Englund knows a bit or two about the character having played him since 1984 in a number of films and on TV. He even made an appearance as the character in 2018 thanks to The Goldbergs.
Englund has recently been talking to SYFY about the series and his hopes to see a prequel. Here’s what he had to say:
It sounds like Freddy had better get Saul Goodman on the case if he wants to get off those charges.
I’m not sure how I’d feel about A Nightmare on Elm Street prequel. Whatever we do get, I’d absolutely love to see Robert Englund back in the role.
Unfortunately, the star feels he is now too old to carry the franchise, which is understandable as he is 73 this year. That said, he did indicate a willingness to film a cameo or even voice the character in an animated version. This is now what I am hoping for.
No doubt we will learn more about the franchise soon with an inevitable reboot coming sooner rather than later.
