Been enjoying season one of Resident Alien? If so, you’ll be glad to know that SyFy has hastily renewed it for a second season! The Resident Alien renewal comes surprisingly early, before the debut season has aired its finale. Furthermore, it illustrates the patience of SyFy to stick with a show. Normally, a lot of comic book shows see the ax after only one season. However, the impressive viewing figures for this show speak for themselves.
Deadline confirmed the Resident Alien renewal in a recent article. For those of you unaware, the series is based on the acclaimed Dark Horse comic books by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. It chronicles the adventures of a mysterious visitor from another part of the universe. Of course, there’s a lot of humor littered throughout. We see how strange earth really is through the eyes of an outsider. The concept is definitely intriguing and entertaining. It’s played out to near perfection.
So far, the first season is a big success, with the pilot accumulating over 9 million viewers across all platforms. Moreover, the second episode saw a large increase of 581,000 viewers. Interestingly, according to Nielsen, this was the biggest jump for a cable drama launch since 2014. This is a big feat for SyFy, making it the network’s highest-rated show in over six years! The show is led by Alan Tudyk (Rogue One) as doctor Harry Vanderspeigle. Other cast members include Linda Hamilton (General McCallister), Corey Reynolds (Sheriff Mike Thompson), Alice Wetterlund (D’Arcy Bloom), Elizabeth Bowen (Deputy Liv Baker), Sara Tomko (Asta Twelvetrees), and Levi Fiehler (Mayor Ben Hawthorne).
