Yesterday Rockstar launched its current update to Red Dead Online, which triggered a backlash online, spawning #SaveRedDeadOnline, a trend on Twitter. Two years after release, fans have had enough with the lack of attention compared to Rockstars other releases, Grand Theft Auto V.

Me & my friends have spent countless hours playing RDO, as much as we love the game we’re really starting to see the neglect Rockstar has for the game and its so disappointing. we make our own fun with the game but that can only last for so long.#SaveRedDeadOnline pic.twitter.com/KcAd8zzmGG

To Rockstar, one of these is not like the other

Rockstar launched its update, adding a bonus to a land of opportunities missions, call to arms, gang hideout, and the featured series. Plus, a month’s worth of persistent posse rewards. Compared to the recent update of Grand Theft Auto Online’s: The Contract, which featured more single-player content bringing back the main character Franklin and featuring Dr.Dre. However, there is an apparent difference between these two games and the support received.

That’s the feeling expressed through the trend and the community on Reddit. Looking at the subreddit, the community loves and supports Red Dead Redemption 2 and has for years since the launch. However, in the eye of the players, the game hasn’t received the support expected compared to Rockstar’s other major release.

An insufficient update

The recent update might have been the final straw for players who’ve become tired of the discrepancy between the games. So, players took to social media, creating the trend. Now the trend is gaining help from other gaming communities since the update’s launch yesterday. As a result, Rockstar may now face more backlash over their choices lately, possibly worsening their relationship with the communities.

Even though I don’t support Red Dead Online, I will support the war against Rockstar as they’ve done all of us dirty. From the Bully community with Bully 2, to the GTA community with GTA V EE and GTA 6, and the Midnight Club fanbase with MC5. #SaveRedDeadOnline pic.twitter.com/Gg59gnuDVg

Looking at the updates that Grand Theft Auto Online received compared to Red Dead Online, it’s a fair criticism. However, they’re also coming off the reception of GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which had backlash due to a poor release. Time will only tell what Rockstar’s response will be if there will be any response at all to community concerns.
