This weekend, retro first-person shooter giant 3D Realms hosted a digital event known as Realms Deep. This event looks into much of what not only 3D Realms is up to, but their partners and friends as well. It’s an interesting time for old-school gamers to look at what kind of modern classics they can look forward to, and for younger gamers to get a taste of the old days. If you didn’t get the chance to watch it, you can do so at the link below. For those who don’t have the chance to tune in though, here’s everything the team had to show off at the event.
Realms Deep 2020 Announcements
Realms Deep 2020, as expected, featured fresh announcements from 3D Realms themselves. GRAVEN, SiN: Reloaded, and Core Decay were all new games from the publisher, all looking great from their initial previews. There was also a remaster of the cult classic Rise of the Triad announced, bringing newer gamers to the retro 90s first-person shooter. They also announced a fresh expansion and soundtrack for Ion Fury, a shooter we reviewed a while back. I’m a big fan of 3D Realms’ games, so I’m excited to see what these games look like.
Realms Deep also some interesting announcements from their partners. There were announcements for Brutal Fate, Hell Hunt, Cyber Hook, DOOMBRINGER, Dread X Collection 2, Effigy, Hellbound, Hedon, Adventures of Square, Prodeus, HROT, Hellscreen, Hyperviolent, and many more. That is a lot of new games, but I’m personally excited about Prodeus and Cyber Hook. The former looks to give retro-FPS games a modern facelift while maintaining a pixel art style and looks great for those wanting to get into the genre. Cyber Hook, on the other hand, heads fully into modern cyber aesthetics, having you move incredibly fast using a hook. Needless to say, both games are on my radar following the event.
It was a very exciting Realms Deep, filled with game reveals and interviews. If you have the time, I’d highly suggest tuning into both days of content. For now, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the games featured. Any here that you think are going to be exciting on release? Which FPS game from the 90s is your favorite?
