Alongside the launch of the new Razer Blade gaming notebook, Razer has unveiled a cheaper version of its Razer Core V2 – the Razer Core X. The Razer Core X is an external graphics enclosure which can easily house three-slot graphics cards from Nvidia or AMD, with enough room left to accommodate a custom cooler. The big news here is the advertised Mac support, as well as a reduced price tag of $299, which immediately makes the Core X more appealing than the last-gen Core V2
The Razer Core X offers plug-and-play capabilities with the Thunderbolt 3 connection to the laptop, which doesn’t require any reboots. The Thunderbolt 3 connection also supports the full 40 Gbps bandwidth, so you won’t have any issues with latency or throttling. The Core X houses a 650 Watt ATX power supply which can provide enough power for even the most demanding graphics cards and if the notebook supports charging over USB-C, the Core X can also provide 100 Watts of power for laptop charging.
