After years of waiting, trainers will soon be able to put their Pokemon to the test in player vs. player battles in Pokemon Go. Confirmed via Pokemon Go’s official Twitter account, PVP battles will be coming soon to the game.
The announcement came alongside a screenshot of how battles will look in game. The image shows off a player avatar in a battle arena similar to what has been shown in a mainline Pokemon game or in the classic anime. Very little else is known outside of what we can see in the image and that it will be coming sometime in the near future.
It is up to player speculation to predict how PVP battles will work in the mobile title. Currently, the only battle system Trainers can engage in is gym battles and raids which feature gameplay mechanics like tapping the screen and long pressing to perform a charge move. With how long PVP has taken to come to Pokemon Go, it is safe to assume that Niantic likely has a more in-depth battle system up their sleeves. It seems that fans would hope for a similar battle system to that of a mainline Pokemon title, or possibly the one recently featured in Pokemon Lets Go: Pikachu & Eevee.
Niantic has been busy keeping the game updated and providing plenty for trainers to do while they await PVP. Generation 4 was recently added into Pokemon Go along with a new Sinnoh stone allowing for new evolutions for previously released generations. Additionally, a new Adventure Sync feature was added into the game, allowing for the game to track walking distance in the background, allowing for Trainers to hatch eggs, get buddy candies and complete challenges without having the application opened.
